Superstitions and Roulette

Since the game of roulette is so popular, there are many stories and legends associated with the game also. These might not be true but are definitely a part of the popular culture of roulette.

There are many superstitious sayings that you might hear often when you are paying roulette at a casino. Some people advise that you must not play when you are in a foul mood as it makes you lose the game. One should play in a happy state so that luck favours them. Another saying is that you should not have a tiff with anyone on your table as this brings bad luck too. You should also not jump from table to table as you might leave your luck behind on one of the tables. In case you’re lucky number hits three times in a row you must change your bet for five chances and then come back t your lucky number.

One can never know where these superstitions originated or do they actually have logic behind them or not. However, it is for sure that the players who are serious about roulette do believe in these superstitions. It is because the game is so predictable that one needs anything to cling to their luck and turn it in their favour. Most gamblers also have a lucky charm which they carry along with them each time they play this game.

Many gamblers believe that since Joseph Jagger was able to find a malfunctioning wheel they will also be able to locate one and become rich through it. This legend is wide spreading and many serious gamblers spend a large time of their lives looking for any such wheel.

Another story related to roulette is that of the dealer’s signature. It is believed that each time a dealer releases the ball for spinning in the wheel it does so with the same hand action that makes the distance between the last outcome and the coming outcome almost a constant. Hence you can calculate where the ball will land once you keep observing the pattern of the outcomes. This might not be true yet many gamblers rely on this theory.

Also gamblers believe that the chance of that number increases which has not been coming as an outcome for a while. This is the biggest myth that gamblers carry. The probability of each number is equal in every spin.
