Predicting Roulette
The ultimate system to beat the game of roulette has been on the search for ages. Every gambler aspires to figure out a strategy that will help him to overcome the house edge of a casino. Many gamblers tried to predict the outcome of the game through observing the game and the wheel.
Casinos try their best to avoid any such thing from happening. The wheel’s behaviour would be constantly monitored for any sort of malfunctioning. The wheel’s position was also checked regularly; it was either straightened or rebalanced such that the results can be as arbitrary as possible. However, in a book called The Eudemonic pie, the author talks about a lot of men who called themselves the Eudemons. These men were computer hacker, who had won at a game of roulette using a computer placed in their shoe to do so. They asserted that they had the means to predict the final outcome of the ball.
Another man called Gonzala Garcia Peyalo claimed that he was able to predict the tendencies of the wheel using a computer. He used this strategy at a casino in Madrid and managed to win more than a million dollars in one day. Although it s still not sure whether the prediction was true or he got lucky the same day.
In one more incident in 2004, a Hungarian along with two Serbs used the sector targeting technique in order to monitor the roulette ball and make predictions. They used their mobile camera phones in order to do so. The gambling company sued them for cheating but since they could not prove their allegations the winners were allowed to keep the money they had won.
Although there are ample such claims by people to have broken into the roulette systems there is little evidence to prove their claims. Hence one can only be left pondering whether any such strategy is possible or not.
While many have tried to make predictions and use devices to illegally or legally win at roulette, one conceivable strategy those that rely on luck use is betting only on red. This is where the player bets that the ball will land in a red space for a certain number of spins. For example, they may bet that it will land in a red space for 38 spins in a row. Since there are 18 red spaced on a roulette table with 38 total spaces, the probability of landing on red is 47.37%. Therefore, if the wheel were to spin 38 times, there is a 99% chance that the ball will land on red at least 10 times. There is also a 50% chance that 18 will be red. Therefore, the break-even point would be 19. This demonstrates the difficulty of winning by this strategy.
