Jargon used in the game of Roulette
To play roulette effectively you must also be proficient with the jargon used in the game of roulette. This will not only make you sound like a professional roulette player but helps you understand the game in a better way. Here are a few terms that you must know:
European wheel:
The European wheel is the original form of roulette wheel that has only one zero calibrated in it.
American wheel:
The American wheel has an extra double zero in the wheel. This is played mostly in America.
Ball:
Roulette uses a small ball to spin inside the roulette wheel. The ball is the most important part if the game as it decides whether you are going to win or lose a bet.
Zero, double Zero:
The zeros in a wheel are painted in green and are responsible for making you lose all outside bets. These are the main source of the house edge of the game
Outside bets:
The outside bets are placed on a group of numbers. The probability of winning these are high compared to the inside bets.
Inside bets:
Inside bets are placed on individual numbers. The payoff for these is pretty high but chances of winning are very low.
Combination bet:
When one places a bet on more than one kind of bet it is called a combination bet.
Even-odd bets:
These bets are to be placed on whether the outcome will be an even number or odd number. One of the safest bets you can place in roulette.
Colour bets:
These bets are placed according to the colour of the outcome. One has to bet on either of the colours: red or black.
Dozen bet:
A dozen bet is made on the outcome of the first 12 (1-12), next (12-24) or the last twelve (12- 36) numbers that are present in the wheel.
High low bet:
This bet is to be placed on the range of the numbers that might appear. There are two ranges in this either 1-18 or 19-36.
Straight up bet:
When a bet is placed on a single number it is called a straight up bet.
Other bets:
Other inside bets can be placed on different of numbers. Say a couple, a trio or four numbers at once.
