Roulette is not just about the roulette wheel there are several other components that comprise the entire setup of the game of roulette.

The roulette wheel is placed on a table which can be in two formats. In the first format the wheel is placed at one end of the table. This format is usually followed by casinos and is the popular one too. The other format that is followed is the double ended table format. In this case the wheel is placed at the centre of a table and then there are two layouts placed on the either side of the wheel.

The layout of the table is as such: the table is roofed with a green thick cloth over which the layout is placed. The players stand around this table or sit at seats that are placed around the table. The layout of the table reflects the slots in the roulette wheel. All the 36 numbers are present there painted in their corresponding colors arranged in columns of three. These three columns are named as the first dozen, second dozen and the third dozen. The options for the outside bets are placed at the side: the colors, the even-odd and the two ranges from 1 to 18 and from 19 to 36. The layout is as such that the chips can be placed on the layout and that is how the bet is authenticated.

The tiny ball that is used to play the game is made of either synthetic plastic or ivory. These are usually half an inch in radius.

The chips that a player exchanges for money are all of different colors. Each table has a set of 300 chips in around eight different colors. Each player is given a unique color that represents him on the table. The denominations are not represented in any manner on the chip. However if the amount is really high they have special chips representing that.

The wheel is the main component of the game of roulette. It is also of two formats: European having a single zero and American having two zeros. All the rest of the features of the wheel are exactly the same.
